“And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how.”
– Mark 4:26-27 (ESV)
Over the past summer of 2025, Cru Singapore held a medical mission trip to Puerto Princessa, Palawan, in partnership with Agape Rural (Health) Program (ARP). I volunteered along with some classmates for this trip. Over the week, we went from village to village, sharing the Gospel, conducting health education, and offering free medical consultations to the locals. In various moments of fellowship as a team, a common theme surfaced amongst us: members expressed a desire to explore medical missions. Yet, they also voiced uncertainty how best to meaningfully cultivate this interest. Their seeking hearts to the mission were being met with uncertainties how to navigate stewarding such desires. How would faith integrate with our professions? Where would we find others who had blazed the trail before us? What is God revealing to me regarding His heart for the nations? What would being called to the nations mean for my career? for my family?
Healthcare In Missions (HIM) was first launched in 2018, by a group of medical students with the guidance of Christian healthcare workers and missionaries. Moved by an ache for missions mobilisation to be revived, there arose a growing desire amongst the younger ones to serve the Lord in the mission field. Since then there have been 3 runs – 2018, 2020, 2023. And this same heart carries forth in HIM’25. To have an event to meet the questions of new seekers, and give encouragement to those who have been called as they navigate the uncertainty of the preparation process.
Scripture says that the kingdom of God is akin to a farmer scattering seeds on the soil. How the gospel takes root and sprouts within, is a mystery to us all. It grows by a process we cannot see nor fully account for.1 Yet, as the farmer sows the seed, unsure of the mechanism of his toil, he has faith in the growing process. And so it is the same with the Kingdom of God. That we trust in a process we cannot see nor fully account for.
Thus, this is our heart as a committee this year, that the Father will give His guidance and encouragement to the seeker and to the called. For the sovereign God is waiting in the wings, growing each person in a process they cannot see nor fully account for. He simply asks for the believer to be faithful to the call, and be reminded that He is sovereign in the journey.
The HIM’25 committee is deeply thankful for the Lord’s providence of Bethel Presbyterian Church for their hospitality in support of the upcoming event. We are also immensely grateful for the various speakers who have come forth to offer their wisdom and guidance in the various workshops and sharings. We covet your prayers and support in whatever fashion in this time as well.
“Faithful to the call, as He is sovereign in the journey”
– Chris, HIM’25 Committee
